a snow day!

Relative calm. Monica is doing her little nnnng sound as she inspects a moomin book, and Stella, laying on her back, is inhaling excitedly, flinging one hand in the air while holding the crinkly frog clown in the other. They've come to the point where they can have some "alone" time, playing on some quilts we put in the middle of the living room floor. All is spoiled if a parent is spotted, because everyone knows that its WAY more fun to have direct attention and entertainment from Papa or Mama. They are rolling around, doing pre-crawl tests of the knees and elbows, and bringing anything within reach directly to their mouth for interpretation.

Its snowing like crazy out- Providence's rare but wonderful winter storm- and Eric is out cross-country skiing with a friend. The dog, currently pancake-like on her bed, went out with me and a friend earlier. She is made for snow: long legs like a moose, big feet like snowshoes, she can bound through the biggest drifts, and does so with great merriment.

We had a wonderful holiday out in BC, staying with Eric's folks in their wood-stove cozied home, not far from his sister's house. Cousins and aunts and uncles abound. We had quite the show with Stella and Monica bouncing and smiley and cute. Eric has a fabulous and large family. He's rich with them. And so then am I and my girls! I feel lucky. Although I did miss my own family.

We even braved a trip up-island to Mount Washington, where we stayed for 4 days with Eric's friend Masa and his wife Jenn and their 1.5 year old, Gus. Eric and Masa got to lay some fresh tracks in the 15 feet of powder! It was a nice view from the condo...actually I did get out one afternoon for a simply wonderful cross-country ski. Nothing can top a tree-line ski way up high in the Vancouver Island mountains- and I had the trail almost entirely to myself.
